wishing upon
a crane

Since February 2022, we have been working on a project with our community called Wishing Upon A Crane. This project amplifies the hope teens have for a brighter future and highlights the violence committed against Asian Americans, a topic people tend to dismiss. As a part of this project, we wanted to create an art installation, where we can share our teen voices to the world. This project was displayed at our 2024 Collaborative Showcase as well as at the Art Institute's Exuberus event.

Process

Throughout 2022-2024, APITAC's network of CPS Asian American clubs joined together to fold, string, and hang our crane display.

In each crane, participants in this project wrote down their answer to "What kind of world do you want to live in?" Like the Japanese tradition of folding 1000 cranes to get a wish, we hope this project brings our community's wishes to life.

What kind of world do you want to live in?

our goal

By asking students across CPS "What kind of world do you want to live in?" we aimed to create a space where students could discuss and address important topics, such as violence and hate towards Asian American communities following COVID-19. When we know what kind of world we want to live in, we can envision and advocate for future changes for the betterment of the AAPI community. APITAC aims to uplift and encourage the next generation to become leaders and make their voices heard.
